A Lesson in Taking Action: Jump off a Cliff and Build Your Parachute on the Way Down

I was talking with someone last night who told me how much he enjoyed the webinar that Nicole and I presented the night before.

He was telling me what he liked about it, and that being a seminar junkie, he’d not seen one so full of great content, value and entertainment, even including the paid courses he’d seen.

……(as you read on you’ll understand why this was so particularly nice to hear!)

The entertainment factor was much because were ad-libbing as we went (…well, we had to, Nicole’s blog database crashed just as we were starting and she was beginning her presentation!) – panic button!

You know that sinking (no, FALLING) feeling?

And I had to laugh out loud when he told me that it was like we had just jumped off a cliff and were building our parachute on the way down!

That, coupled with the fact that we jumped in at the start of this year spontaneously deciding to run these webinars without a stitch of preparation (other than that we do know our ‘stuff’ and have some hard knocks to prove it), has had us furiously building our parachute ever since.

As a result, we’ve done our third in a weekly series of webinars, and our training site is up and running (though not quite complete, a few technical hurdles still remain with the membership status’), and we’re planning the next webinar as we go.

So not only was that an extremely nice compliment, it was especially nice to hear after all we’ve been through to get here!

A Matter of Habit

It’s been like this for me pretty much in the last year and a half, like I’m on a runaway freight train or more to the point, free falling.

….. ever since I jumped off that cliff many months ago, I’ve been building my parachute as fast as I could go.

And the results have been amazing.

That would a motivating factor, wouldn’t it, when you have already jumped?

And one thing occurs to me just now while thinking about it, that stands out  …..

When you take action consistently,

……..what happens is that

…….. it then just becomes a simple matter of habit.

But Doesn’t it Make More Sense to Build a Parachute First?

What if I had waited to build that parachute first, deciding on the right pattern, cloth, getting it just so, every stitch in place?

Well most likely I wouldn’t have jumped yet.

As a matter of fact, that’s what held me back for my first year in marketing.

Learning all about the parachute, the right materials, where to buy them, the right size, how to make it and who could teach me.

Finally I realized nothing was happening in my business and I had to do something.

The bandits were catching up to me, you know, those money hungry CEOs that had been laying off people in my company for the previous 10 years…..

So I jumped…………..

………… and found myself falling ……………

THAT’s when things started happening.

I had no more time for excuses, but just kept falling forward, finding my way, any way to build that parachute.

parachuteBut I’m finding the glide rather nice right now, seeing some pretty nice scenery (results) as I continue building out my parachute.

It’s holding itself together, and me up (though, yes, I am still falling, and still building :) .

It’s happened several times too, over the last year and a half.

Jumping, falling, building……..

I think my friend Nicole will agree with me wholeheartedly, after all, she’s jumped off of a few more cliffs than I have.

When she had nowhere to live, she still took the last few dollars in her pocket, and rode her bike 75 miles through 105 degree desert heat to the first No Excuses event in Las Vegas.

We built our first products and membership sites together, having no idea what we were doing, but learning as we went as we took action to just DO it.

Nothing like a live site to make your priority getting it done right and quickly!

So if you think you have excuses for not taking action,

…think again.

Or rather, just JUMP!

And if you’re thinking you’d like to jump, but would feel better with someone to follow, then sign up and attend our weekly webinars, and become a member (form on the right) to access the replays.

And if you’re a member of either or our teams you’ll have full access to our coaching and all of our trainings (see our ‘Team Vault‘ section for more on joining us).

Either way, we look forward to helping you build your parachute on your way down, we’ll help you make falling fun and rewarding!

Congratulations on going live ~ your intro blog is wonderful. As a former hang glider pilot, I can relate to your metaphor. Wish you the best of success in your newest endeavor.
